A one-day course designed to cover the minimum requirement for anyone involved in, or connected with, the handling of food or beverages. It may also be appropriate for people whose work requires them to enter catering premises. For employees in the catering and hospitality sector, it supersedes the Foundation Certificate in Food Hygiene.
The syllabus includes an introduction to food poisoning and elementary bacteriology, sources of contamination, control of hazards, HACCP systems/SFBB, food storage and temperature control, personal hygiene, basic cleaning and disinfection, food premises design and basic pest control.
A twenty question multiple choice paper will conclude the course. Pass mark 13/20.

* Note the above-mentioned qualification is available as sector specific i.e. Food Safety for Manufacturing and Food Safety in Retail Awards, however examination papers for these may need to be ordered in advance.
Held at The Heath Centre (in the grounds of Little Havens Children’s Hospice), Daws Heath Road, Thundersley, Essex SS7 2LH from 9.30am to 4.30pm each day.

In such circumstances a full refund of course fees will be made or a transfer to another suitable course will be offered to the delegate. No responsibility is accepted for incidental or consequential loss resulting from such a cancellation.
- More than 14 days before the Course – no charge made.
- 7 days before the course – 50% of the fee payable.
- Less than 7 days before the course – the whole fee will be payable.
