About Us and Our Staff

Food Hygiene Matters was established in 1989 by John Downer, an experienced environmental health officer. John retired from the business in December 2004.

Tracy Pitkin

MRSPH joined Food Hygiene Matters in 1997 bringing into the organisation her specialisms as a trainer and as an auditor with a wide experience of the food industry. She has worked for major food retailers, which has brought to the Company an invaluable aspect of food control. She has recently worked with Southend Borough Council coaching Safer Food Better Business to a variety of local food establishments. Tracy progressed Food Hygiene Matters on to become a Limited Company in January 2007. Tracy is a fully qualified HACCP expert.

Sally Howard

MRSPH joined Food Hygiene Matters in the summer of 2000 bringing with her administrative skills to manage our office. She qualified as a trainer in 2001 and has since regularly presented the Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering.

Bridget Newlove

MRSPH joined Food Hygiene Matters in March 2006 with over 15 years experience in retail, public and corporate sectors. Previously she worked as a group training and health and safety manager for the Compass group and has also been responsible for the catering team providing food for South East Essex College. Her blend of experience has established her role as a trainer and consultant for Food Food Hygiene Matters. Bridget has additional qualifications in nutrition.

We have been dealing with Tracy and the team at Food Hygiene Matters since 2012, they have taken us from having no real HACCP in place to a BRCGS Accredited Company. Being in the meat trade they had their work cut out changing old habits, but they managed to get all systems in place, and we now run to an exceptionally high standard. Always on hand to help out with endless forms and information that is now needed, they cover all our Audits that we have on site FSA, BRC along with new customers audits. We highly recommend Food Hygiene Matters.

Food Hygiene Matters have been assisting my company for several years now, ensuring we are up to date with the latest legislation and that all paperwork is present and correct. Tracy also assists on site during customer audits and I have found the professional service provided excellent. Having Food Hygiene Matters taking care of my companies food safety obligations means I am able to spend more time doing the countless other things involved with running a business. Tracy is always available to answer any questions and I am very happy with the service 10/10.

Tracy and the team were instrumental in us achieving milestone of BRC accreditation at AAA standard in 2019 and 2020. Tracy is a consummate professional in her field and without her and her team the journey would not have been possible for us. Her knowledge and experience have been invaluable in developing our own teams in this field and her authority and background is clearly recognised by our clients and their auditors.

Food Hygiene Matters have been supporting London Dairies Ltd for just over 6 years and have assisted us in attaining and retaining our BRCGS AA status. Their knowledge and expertise is exceptional. Tracy and her team are always on hand to help with any queries or concerns, and have been invaluable in advising and guiding during the pandemic. FHM are highly recommended by us for their professionalism, efficiency and helpfulness.
